Higher Education: Using the COPM to Measure AT Outcomes

Linda Petty, Assistive Technology Consultant at University of Toronto, will show how to enhance your assistive technology service delivery in three ways.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify how to both establish rapport and draw out student-centered problem areas in academic tasks, avoiding stereotyping based on disability/diagnosis.
  • Learn how to utilize the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM) to obtain reliable and valid data on student performance and satisfaction for each problem area, and in doing so, obtain greater buy-in from the student in seeking technologies and strategies to compensate.
  • Examine how the use of the COPM in follow-up provides individualized student-centered outcome measures, which in turn can be compiled to demonstrate the effectiveness of the assistive technology and of services to your funding agencies and administrators in our today’s driven academic environment.

This workshop will focus on applying this methodology with students at a postsecondary level with learning disabilities, ADHD, mental health issues, and physical disabilities, by utilizing the reading, writing, and study supports available through kurzweil 3000 software.
